Mission and Vision

Mano en Mano works with farmworkers statewide and immigrants in Downeast Maine to empower them to thrive.

We envision a stronger, more inclusive Maine where the contributions of diverse communities are welcomed, access to essential services, education and housing are ensured, and social justice and equity are embraced.

Our History

In the late 1990s, migrant workers from the blueberry industry moved to Milbridge, Maine year-round. Mano en Mano was founded in 2005 by and for the community to welcome, support, and celebrate the people who do this work and make our communities whole.

We don’t see this as charity. We are filling a gap that we see people have because of organizational and systemic oppression. A system that is designed to deny community members a living wage, healthcare, and equitable educational opportunity. These resources and services are owed to the people that work and live here seasonally and year-round.

We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re here for you.
