Fall Fun with the Migrant Education Program

This fall program coordinators of the Migrant Education Program worked throughout Maine to welcome migrant students and families back to school!

Fall is an important time of year for the Migrant Education Program as our team supports students transition into the school year and performs outreach to enroll families traveling for the apple and wreath season.  Our team also provides educational support, advocacy services and enrichment activities to help families connect with the community and have some fun!

Please read more about some of the activities our team organized for students and families this autumn.

Back to School- With the start of the new school year our team worked to ensure that all students had the materials and resources they needed to reach their academic goals.  Program coordinators distributed backpacks, school supplies and books to students across the state so that students started the year off with the materials they needed.

Getting outdoors- We organized a trip to Treworgy farms to get some fresh air and enjoy the fall!  Students and families visited the pumpkin patch, corn maze and spent a day exploring and connecting with their local community.

Out of School Youth- Our team also supports students that are no longer in school, but want to continue their education. Students who are 20 and under can enroll in the Migrant Education program to receive literacy and English language instruction.  Our team has enrolled many students this fall and will begin teaching English classes in November.

Celebrating the Season- Students took part in pumpkin carving, painting, and trunk-or-treat-ing to celebrate Halloween and engage with the community!
