Mano en Mano supports Milk with Dignity

This spring leaders of Nuestra Voz en la Comunidad and Mano en Mano partnered with our friends at Migrant Justice to support their Milk with Dignity Campaign.

Migrant Justice, is a nonprofit, farmworker-driven human rights organization based in Burlington, Vermont.  Their Milk with Dignity program brings together farmworkers, farmers, buyers and consumers to secure dignified working conditions in dairy supply chains. The program enlists the resources of food industry leaders to provide a premium for milk to participating farmers who agree to work towards compliance with the labor standards in the Milk with Dignity Code of Conduct.

One example of their impact includes  Ben and Jerrys, which implemented the Milk with Dignity Code of Conduct across 100% of their diary volume starting in 2017.  This includes 65 farms across Vermont and New York and protects more than 250+ dairy workers under the Milk with Dignity Code of Conduct.

Migrant Justice is seeking to partner with farmworkers, partner organizations and allies to call on Hannaford to better serve the workers behind Hannaford-brand milk by joining the Milk with Dignity Program.  This spring they connected with members of Nuestra Voz and Mano en Mano to share more about the efforts to put pressure on Hannaford, and additional ways to get involved and advocate for the rights and wellbeing of dairy workers across the united states.

At the meeting community members learned more about the program, asked questions, and shared their experiences working in seasonal and migrant work. Many folks signed up to take action and march with Migrant Justice on June 24th in Portland, to demand that store bought milk be produced free from human rights violations.
