Rayitos de Sol Bilingual Childcare

Building Brighter Futures and Vibrant Communities

Breaking Ground to Build Brighter Futures!

In 2021 we broke ground on what will be the new Rayitos de Sol Bilingual Childcare Center in Milbridge, Maine.

Childcare is a need statewide and especially in rural Maine where there are fewer childcare options

The new facility will offer more space and infrastructure to serve up to 64 children and help the center more effectively serve infants, toddlers, preschoolers and provide after school programming for elementary school students.

Brighter Futures begin here!

The new Rayitos de Sol Bilingual Childcare center provides more space and infrastructure to give kids a bright start from the beginning! The new building includes:

  • 6,600 square ft

  • Capacity to welcome a total of 64 Children

  • Indoor and outdoor recreation spaces

  • Culturally nourishing food pantry and kitchen

  • Spaces to build community and celebrate identity

  • Chispa/ Spark Center

    Bilingual Library and Meeting Space
The Chispa, or Spark center is a place to spark children's imagination, creativity and nurture a lifelong love for literature and learning. This area of the Rayitos de Sol houses our bilingual library, art supply center, and serves as a staff conference center for collaboration, planning curriculum and meeting with families.

  • Bright Futures/ Futuros Brillantes

Community Food Pantry and Rayitos de Sol Kitchen
At Rayitos de Sol, we believe that every child should have access to foods that nourish their bodies, minds, and souls. This area of the center includes our culturally nourishing food pantry, Our Mercadito and the Rayitos de Sol kitchen, where we prepare meals and snacks for the children in our care. This space will be vital to cultivating community health and wellness

  • Amanecer/Daybreak Wing

    Infant and Toddler classrooms
This space provides support for students in their earliest and most formative years. It includes all classrooms for children ages 6 weeks to 3 ½ years. The Amanecer Wing provides children with a strong foundation and creates a nurturing environment to foster development and shed light on the unique needs of each child as they grow.

  • Luminario/Luminary Wing

    Preschool and Outdoor Learning areas
This area of the center provides support for children as they gain a deeper understanding of themselves and community through learning about the world around them. This wing includes our Preschool classroom for students 3 ½ to 5 years old as well as the Outdoor Learning Area that will be utilized by all students during recess and play time. These two areas of the center will illuminate children’s pathways to growth as they continue to discover the world around them.

  • BieneSTAR Space

    Community Connection and Recreation Spaces
We’re proud of Rayitos de Sol and want to share our space with our community. That is why we have incorporated meeting rooms and indoor recreation spaces to provide important areas to celebrate health and wellness, or Bienestar in Spanish! In the winter, during the day, the indoor recreation area will be used for children to develop their gross motor skills through play and host our after school programming for elementary age students. In the summer, we will use this space for special programming, activities, and a rainy day space for children to play during recess. Throughout the year, the BieneSTAR space serves the entire community and becomes a shared space. Community members can use the BieneSTAR area for cultural celebrations, classes, and other activities that build and strengthen relationships and make our community more vibrant.
