¡Felices fiestas! / Pase bon sezon fèt! / Happy holidays!

Every year in December we’ve created a space for community members to come together, connect, celebrate, share food, dance, and pass on cultural traditions to the next generation. This would have been the 15th year of celebrating La Posada as a community. Due to COVID-19, we will not be gathering together in person, but we did want to create an opportunity for people to connect with each other.

We put together stories  - via multi-lingual videos and voice recordings - of people sharing their holiday and end of the year traditions as a snapshot of all of the different cultures that thrive in Downeast Maine.

We have so appreciated sharing time and space with year round and new folks this past year, and although we are connecting virtually this time around - it’s with that same intention of unity.

Check out the video below, where community members from Honduras, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Jamaica connect and share some of their holiday traditions and memories:

Note: below are the time markers for sections of the video in Spanish, Haitian Creole and English (in minutes: seconds)

Spanish: 0:07-1:00, 4:35-25:30

Creole: 1:00-3:50, 25:30-50:08
