Amelia has been working with the Maine Migrant Education Program (MEP) since 2013. She graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with a double major in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Anthropology. Since then, she has worked for the Portland CareerCenter as a multilingual Career Consultant and with ESCORT and the Maine MEP. Amelia has worked for the MEP in the roles of recruiter, tutor/advocate, Field Services Leader, and most recently, Statewide Services Coordinator. She learned Spanish while living in Sonora, Mexico and improved her French while living in Montreal. She is currently learning to speak Kinyarwanda. Amelia has developed materials and presented at national conferences, most recently on Female Recruiters' Perspectives, Building Interpersonal Skills for Recruitment, and Strategies for Teaching ID&R Eligibility. Amelia lives in Gorham with her husband, where in her free time, she enjoys yoga, a good book, and a hike or swim in nature.
As Associate Director, Amelia will be primarily overseeing activities for the Maine Migrant Education Program (MEP). She is focused on supporting program staff to develop new and personalized educational services to address the unique needs of each migrant student. In addition, Amelia will continue to provide guidance on the Identification and Recruitment of eligible migrant students across the state.
