On Saturday, April 26th, 2014, families and community members gathered at the EdGE Center in Cherryfield to celebrate El Día del Niño—Children’s Day—when youth of all ages are honored. The event, organized by community members and sponsored by Mano en Mano | Hand in Hand, served to raise funds to purchase Spanish language materials for the Milbridge Public Library. Amidst face painting, balloon animal making, Zumba dancing, and a plethora of games, attendees of the event filled out surveys and cast votes for materials they wanted to see in the library.
Including a matched donation from an anonymous donor and the proceeds from the 50/50 raffle, the event raised $560 dollars towards the purchase of Spanish and bilingual books, magazines, and reference materials for the Milbridge Public Library!
You can check out more photos of the event on our Flickr site and on Facebook.
Mano en Mano | Hand in Hand would like to thank the volunteers and community leaders who organized and contributed to the event, the EdGE center in Cherryfield for permitting the use of their space, and Columbia supermarket.
