In late August, we were pleased to host a Freshman Orientation group from Bowdoin College in Brunswick. This is the second year that Mano en Mano has participated in the orientation trips. Incoming freshmen have the option of going on adventure and hiking trips or participating in community service work in various locations around Maine. Organized by the McKeen Center for the Common Good on the Bowdoin campus, the group service trips are set up to give students the chance to get to know one another, but also to visit different communities in Maine and volunteer with local agencies.
The students that came to Mano en Mano did a great job helping with landscaping around the building and also with projects for the Adult Education program. After a visit to Spring River lake for an afternoon, the group enjoyed authentic Mexican food from the food trucks at Wyman’s on the blueberry barrens.
Much of our work depends on volunteer help and participation, and we are grateful for the time offered by eager students! We look forward to continuing the collaboration in the future.
