Mano en Mano presented our 4th Annual Mother’s Day Event and Cultural Celebration on Saturday, May 8th, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at the Milbridge Town Hall. The event included a community potluck and a variety of traditional Latin American dances, folk music, poetry, and plays put on by Latino youth to share their culture and heritage with the wider Milbridge community.
Special thanks go to all of our participants and volunteers as well generous funding from the Maine Humanities Council for making this event possible.
With an impressive thirteen total acts, our performance included numbers like “La Maria” (a comic dance), “La Bamba” (a traditional dance from the state of Veracruz), “Madrecita mia” (A poem expressive love and thanks for mothers), “La pelicula” (a comic play about children filming a movie), and of course, “El Moreliano” (a dance with a bull called the Morelian).
Thanks to everybody who came to the event and we hope to see you at our next potluck on Wednesday, May 26.
