Why I Donated to Estamos Aqui - Beth, Pammy, Brian, and Jonah
It’s unconscionable, but unfortunately unsurprising, that Congress excluded millions of immigrants and their families from eligibility for COVID-19 economic impact payments and expanded unemployment insurance. Since Congress won’t treat them as the full members of our society that they are, I’m so glad the Estamos Aquí Fund lets me redirect my economic impact payment to immigrants who were left out.
--Beth Stickney, Portland, Maine
Our job was not affected by COVID-19, so we are glad to give to the Estamos Aqui Fund for our community members whose jobs have been affected. Let's make COVID-19 an opportunity! -- to make a stronger-knit community, by taking care of each other. We send good wishes to families most affected by the virus, and say-- We are in this together. Juntos adelante!
-- Pammy & Brian Dyer Stewart, Harrington, Maine
"I donated to the Estamos Aquí fund because I am fortunate enough not to rely upon your stimulus check. I am supporting the immigrant and migrant communities that Mano en Mano works with not only because they are backbones of Maine's economy, but more importantly, because they are also valued, often invisibilized, members of the community as well.
-- Jonah Watt, Chicago, Illinois
Pammy, Brian, Beth, and Jonah kindly shared why they chose to donate to Mano en Mano's mutual assistance fund, Estamos Aqui. Thanks to such generosity and support from our community, we have raised over $80,000 to support farmorkers and immigrants who have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Over 130 people have donated so far, and we have been able to provide assistance to more than 360 people in Maine. We are so grateful for the display of solidarity from our community during these trying times. Thank you so much!
Yet, since requests for assistance are still coming in, we will continue to fundraise until all requests are met. If you are able to, please consider donating to support farmworkers and immigrants in Maine who have been affected by COVID-19 and who may not be eligible for government assistance.
We are in this together. Thank you for your support. Juntos adelante!
