Mano en Mano to Host Free Interpreter Training
Mano en Mano will be facilitating a free training for medical interpreters in Washington and Hancock Counties in order to increase access to medical services for non-English speakers. There are two ways you can take advantage of this opportunity!
1. Share the medical interpreter training information with any bilingual personnel or community member that could potentially serve you as a medical interpreter. The training will be held 9am – 1pm on April 16 at our office in Milbridge (2 Maple St).
2. Host a training at your site for your medical staff on how to use interpreters. While having an interpreter is essential to be able to provide medical treatment, it is also necessary for medical providers to understand how to use a medical interpreter. We would like to train your medical and office staff on how to interact with and use interpreters during medical appointments. This training is planned for around an hour, but can be adjusted to meet the needs of your staff. We can set up a training at your clinic or hospital on April 14 or April 15 at a time convenient for you.
All persons participating in the half-day medical interpreter training should already be bilingual. This training will include Spanish medical terms, but the policies, practices, and ethics of medical interpretation can be applied to any language interpretation. Please let us know if you would like to schedule an on-site staff training on either April 14 or 15. You can contact Kate Brinks at firstname.lastname@example.org or 207-598-5253.
Funding for this training was provided by the Downeast Community Transformation Collaborative.
