Mano en Mano Presents at National Migrant Education Conference
On April 30th, 2013, Mano en Mano staff member Ana Blagojevic and early childhood education consultant Bonnie Blagojevic presented at the National Migrant Education Conference in Orlando, Florida about iPad project Comienza en Casa | It Starts at Home – a curriculum that provides parents of migrant preschool children with activities and information to promote their child’s school readiness at home using integrated technology – which Ana and Bonnie developed together. The presentation was attended by 38 participants from a variety of states across the country (Colorado, Ohio, Vermont, and Texas, for example).
“We were honored to have the opportunity to share information and stories about our early learning program, Comienza en Casa| It Starts at Home and the wonderful work that families participating in the program have been doing,” said Ana. “Our presentation allowed us to share about some of what is going on in Migrant Education in the State of Maine, and we used many photos and videos created by families to highlight stories of learning.”
At the conference Ana and other Maine Migrant Education staff attended other sessions and heard presentations on many innovative programs going on in other states. It was an excellent opportunity to network and learn about new methods. We look forward to applying what was learned at the NASDME conference to future programming at Mano en Mano!
