Migrant Student Earns Regional Honor at Eastern Maine Basketball Tourney
Students in the Migrant Education Program find many learning opportunities in places beside their classrooms. Calais High School Senior, Devin Hall, has been a key player on the Varsity Basketball team for three years, and again helped lead his team into the Maine Principals’ Association Eastern Maine Class C Basketball Tournament. As a senior, Devin was elected co-Captain by his teammates, and led the team in scoring all season long. More importantly, after losing four of five starters to graduation in 2012, Devin’s leadership helped the team achieve more than anyone expected, eventually competing in the semi-final game of the 2013 tournament.
Devin’s leadership, talent, and skills have been recognized by the Bangor Daily News which selected him for the 2013 Boys East All-Tourney Team. His MEP tutor has seen how Devin’s strengths have earned him opportunity to lead and excel. And the confidence he has gained from these opportunities have encouraged Devin to do more in the classroom than just stay eligible to play. His grades have risen steadily to a solid “B” average. Devin expects to graduate in June and has applied to attend the Liberal Arts Studies program at Eastern Maine Community College in the fall.
